Desiree Y. Lyles

Desiree Y. Lyles was born in Boston, Massachusetts, into a proud military family. She is the daughter of devoted parents and grew up alongside her two brothers. Today, her close-knit family includes three nephews, one niece, one great-nephew, and two wonderful sisters-in-law who have been a constant source of love and support throughout her life.
As the child of a military family, Desiree experienced both the rewards and challenges that come with military life. Her family eventually settled in Atlantic Beach, Florida, where she was raised. She attended Atlantic Beach Elementary School, Fletcher Junior High School, and graduated from Beaches Chapel School in Neptune Beach, Florida.

After graduating from high school, Desiree worked a variety of jobs while searching for her career path. She enrolled in college more than once, but despite her determination, she struggled academically and left feeling discouraged. She later began working for Aetna Insurance, where she built an eight-year career. During that time, she decided to give college another try.
Everything changed because of one professor.

Recognizing that Desiree understood the material but struggled with traditional written exams, her professor allowed her to take a history test orally. She passed with flying colors. That experience led to an evaluation, where Desiree learned that she had dyslexia. For the first time, she understood that her academic struggles were not a reflection of her intelligence—they were the result of an undiagnosed learning difference.

Soon afterward, Desiree moved to Suffern, New York, to nanny for the children of a family friend. While there, she discovered Landmark College in Putney, Vermont, a college nationally recognized for supporting students with dyslexia and other learning differences.

At the age of 30, with the love, encouragement, and blessing of her family, Desiree made the courageous decision to return to college. It was a turning point in her life. She finally had the opportunity to learn in an environment that recognized her strengths instead of her challenges, proving that with the right support, determination, and perseverance, success is possible at any age.

That journey shaped the woman and entrepreneur she is today. It also inspired her passion for helping college students overcome barriers and pursue their dreams with confidence.
As the founder of College Bound Transportation, Desiree has combined her personal experiences with her commitment to service by creating a company dedicated to providing safe, comfortable, clean, and trustworthy transportation for college students throughout Northeast Florida. She understands that every student’s journey is unique, and she is committed to giving students and their families the peace of mind that comes from reliable, professional transportation.
Desiree’s story is one of resilience, faith, determination, and the belief that it is never too late to achieve your dreams.
